The Coalition is pleased to be bringing mushroom expert Meg Madden back to Mount Independence for another mushroom exploration. She’ll provide an orientation first, and then lead you out to look for and learn about the mushrooms that grow at Mount Independence. This walk is always a fascinating time.
Wear sturdy walking shoes and dress for the weather. It is suggested you call the site in advance to reserve your spot. 802-948-2000. The program is sponsored by the Mount Independence Coalition, friends group for the historic site. Included in regular museum admission of $8.00 for adults, $1.00 for children 6-14, and under 6 free. Also free are Coalition members and holders of Green Mountain Passports.
The Mount Independence State Historic Site is one of the best-preserved Revolutionary War sites in America, and is also known for its natural resources. It is located nearly the end of Mount Independence Road, six miles west of the intersections of Vermont Routes 22A and 73 near Orwell village; carefully follow the signs. Regular hours are daily, 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily through October 20.
