The history beneath your feet!

Join geologist Helen Mango for an exploration of the geologic history of Mount Independence. You’ll see the oldest rocks in the Potsdam Formation to the newer rocks of the Great Meadows Formation.

Meet at the museum. Wear sturdy shoes or boots and bring water. Admission is $8.00 for adults, $1.00 for ages 6-14, and under 6 free. The fee includes the museum and all the trails. Coalition members get in free. Call 802-948-2000 for more information.

The Mount Independence State Historic Site is one of the best preserved Revolutionary War archeological sites in the country. It is located at 497 Mount Independence Road, six miles west of the intersections of Vermont Routes 22A and 73 near Orwell village. Carefully follow the signs. Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily through October 20.
