Hike Into History for National Trails Day – June 3

On Saturday, June 3, Hike into History at Mount Independence State Historic and celebrate National Trails Day at the same time. The walk, from 2:00 to 3:30, is led by Mark Brownell, a retired history teacher and board member of the Mount Independence Coalition.

This year is the 240th anniversary of the American, British, and German occupation of Mount Independence in 1777. Brownell will tell you about the importance of the Northern Campaign of the American Revolution and the role Mount Independence played.

Orwell’s Mount Independence, a National Historic Landmark, is named after the Declaration of Independence. The hike is included in the price of admission–$5.00 for adults and free for children under 15.  The site is located at 497 Mount Independence Road, six miles west of the intersection of VT Routes 22A and 73.  Call 802-948-2000 for more information.
