Sunday, October 15, 2017 — 1:00 p.m.
Time for the last 2017 hike into history at the Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell, Vermont. On Sunday, October 15, from 1:00 to 3:30 pm, enjoy a tour led by Stephen Zeoli, president of the friends group for the historic site.
The focus will be on the events of fall 1777, 240 years ago. Can we see on the ground any of the effects at Mount Independence of British Lt. Gen. John Burgoyne’s surrender at Saratoga on October 15, 1777? What about the British withdrawal from the Mount on November 8, 1777?
Zeoli was a former caretaker at the site, is an editor of the new book, Strong Ground: Mount Independence and the American Revolution, and author of the short book, Mount Independence: The Enduring Legacy of a Unique Place. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water, and dress for the weather.
Regular admission fees apply — as usual, Coalition members enter free.
