The Mount Independence Coalition received a $9,000 grant from the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership to update and install thirteen new sign interpretive panels in the area around the museum at the Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell, Vermont.
The signs were installed in time for the site 2025 opening on May 23. They include colorful new informative panels for the trailhead kiosk just above the building, new panels for the welcome kiosk in the parking lot, a new informational panel on the southern Revolutionary War defenses in the back of the parking area, and directional panels at the tops of the kiosks to guide visitors walking the trails.
The signs will be celebrated as part of the annual Soldiers Atop the Mount living history weekend on August 23 and 24, 2025.
The project was funded by an agreement awarded by the Great Lakes Fisheries Commission (GLFC) to the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) in partnership with the Lake Champlain Basin Program.
The Mount Independence State Historic Site is one of the best-preserved Revolutionary War sites in America.
