One of the northeast’s leading archaeologists, Dr. David Starbuck, died on December 27 after a long bout with pancreatic cancer. Starbuck led three of the major archaeological digs at Mount Independence in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His book The Great Warpath described the results of these studies, with a long section on the Mount.
In some ways, David is responsible for the existence of the Coalition, as it was on his digs that people interested in the history of the Mount decided there was a need for such an organization.
We offer our sincere condolences to David’s family and close friend.
